Steve “The Colonel” Cropper

I saw something on the telly late at night last week. And then it was on again the following night so I watched it again. I sat there frustrated staring at what would make a great ten portrait set but having never found a way to frame a ten portrait collection. But then I found some frames at The Range for five 5*7 inch pictures. I couldnā€™t believe my luck. There are some six portrait frames there too. I snapped up an armful and headed home.

Which brings me on to this portrait. It’s the first in a set of ten, that I’d frame as two sets of five. I may even frame them and keep them for myself if they turn out right. Two of the ten, the middle photo in each set of five, will be in black and white and the rest will all be monotone in other colours. I thought about only having five colours and painting one positive and one negative image in each colour but a bit of experimentation on the iPad suggested this wouldn’t work. So, instead, I’m going for nine monotone colour schemes, two of which will be black.

Today I’m starting with Steve Cropper, a guitarist with Booker T And The MGs and he’s been painted in the darkest of my flesh tones. It’s a decent start to the collection, even if the stripy marks annoy me. And if you haven’t worked out where I’m going with this collection, you’ve not lived.

This portrait is part of this collection.
