I took a break from the planets today. Ā A charcoal painting is long overdue and…
Donald “Duck” Dunn
It’s getting dark earlier but it was still light enough for me to have the energy for a second portrait today. I do need to start getting up and heading out for my walk earlier. Because of the time of day, I picked out a subject who was going to have a lot more white space than colour, even though I was planning on saving him for later as I suspect he and his pipe are recognisable enough for a lot of people to be able to spot the theme of this collection.
So this is Donald “Duck” Dunn and he’s going to be my bassist. He’s been painted in ruby. This was the most enjoyable portrait for me so far, just because thereās so much white space there and because there are no huge coloured shapes that make me feel like I’m mowing the pitch at Wembley Stadium when I fill them with colour. The likeness is probably the best so far. Still not perfect but I can claim that any amateurishness in the portraits in this collection is part of the mood I’m trying to create.
This portrait is part of this collection.
