Spock

These are tricky times. We’re having one of our bathrooms done up over the next week or two and this means I’m not able to spend as much time in the studio as I’d like to. So watercolours and soft pastels are off the agenda at the moment, at least during the week. But markers don’t make a mess, so I thought I’d work in the house on a new market collection.

The portraits in this collection will all be two layer posterised paintings. The first layer in each painting will be different but the second layer will always be black. In the Notanizer app, I set the dark tone slider in a position wherever blacks alone would give a decent likeness; I then put the other in a position that gave a decent looking image. I’m hopeful that the experience I’ve built up of posterised watercolour paintings and, in particular, of painting the final layer by eye, might make this one of my more interesting marker collections to date.

This will be the Enterprise Crew Collection and will be made up of nine portraits. First up is Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy. Not my greatest ever portrait but the lighting is definitely moody. Things are looking promising.

This portrait makes up part of The Enterprise Crew.
