That review of Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain is coming soon, I…

Lindsey Buckingham And Stevie Nicks
I saw the other day that the Buckingham Nicks album had been rereleased. This is the album that Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks recorded together in 1973 before joining Fleetwood Mac. You can find it here on Amazon UK. As an Amazon Associate, I earn commission from qualifying purchases but this costs absolutely nothing extra to you.
Anyway, looking at that black and white album cover with its contrasting lights and darks, I thought it would make a great painting. This would be my second attempt at Stevie. My first didn’t achieve any sort of likeness but was a great painting regardless. Could this one be any better?
I painted this one in posterised style using the trippy scheme broadly following my usual process for such paintings. I dried the first multi-coloured layer and sprinkled on lots of salt at exactly the right time, creating possibly my greatest ever salty textures. After painting in the second, French ultramarine, layer and removing the making fluid, I decided to convert more middletones to darks, making Stevie look less blank and doll-like and putting Lindsey’s eyes in shadow and creating an atmosphere of sorts. And that was me done.
Iām liking this one a lot. I don’t recognise the Lindsey and Stevie from Fleetwood Mac but I do recognise the two people on the album cover, two people who also don’t look like Lindsey and Stevie but are apparently the real thing. So I think the likeness is a successful one today. But I also like Stevie’s windswept and vacant look and how Lindsey has a look on his face that says this is my job and I’m already thinking about my next project. And the colours workwell, injecting new life into the image. There’s no red to violet rainbow spectrum in there but there wasn’t anywhere for it to go, so that’s fine by me. This one’s going up for sale, with the price to be found here.
