Landscape Artist Of The Year Submissions

I got an email from Cast It Reach yesterday telling me that, while the closing date for LAOTY submissions is still 23 March, the judges will start looking at entries from 9 February. Well, with there being places available for only ten artists (thanks to an interesting change in format), that’s my call to get my submission in. I don’t want to be applying after the judges have already picked their ten.

This year, as well as answering lots of questions on background, style and influences, candidates had to submit a one minute video of them talking about something related to their artwork. I recorded my video a week or so ago and talked about how the overuse of warm saturated colours (red, orange, yellow, pink and violet) in my pastel paintings was the result of my first set of pastels being deficient in these colours, causing me to overcorrect when those colours joined the crew six months later.

So, yeah, this year’s submission is pastel based and whether I use soft or oil pastels on a particular day will depend on the ambient temperature. Soft pastels on hot days, oil pastels on cold days. My main submission is Telegraph Road Got So Deep And So Wide, a painting that was on the wall of the restaurant at the Rose & Crown that I’ve had to bring home and temporarily remove from the shop window. First support act is They Can Always Fly Away From This Rain And This Cold, a painting that would have been my main submission had it not already been sold. And the third is Foxy Lady because I thought I’d better include something in oil pastel.

Now to just wait and see.
