Jon Jefferson, Auto Shenanigans

Hello and welcome The Artistic Actuary. How the devil are you? Have you had a good week? My name is <redcacted>. Thank you very much for joining me for another exciting marker portrait of a YouTube creator.

Today’s subject is Jon Jefferson, the creator of the Auto Shenanigans YouTube channel. On this channel, Jon roves around the U.K. like Michael Portillo but in a car and better dressed. And whereas Portillo’s interested in people and maybe the landscape, Jon’s focus is on infrastructure, whether that’s roads or buildings. He seems to have a particular interest in whatever weird roads are left over when junctions are rebuilt, busy roads rerouted or ambitious projects cancelled. In short, it’s all entertainment with a subtle undertone of geekery. And, let me tell you, a lot of work goes into those videos. So much drone footage, so many short scenes of him standing by the road saying something along the lines of “So this is it. Right, back to the car.” I have huge respect for this guy.

And on top of all that, And, what’s that? Jon’s also the drummer in a Simply Red tribute band! Wow.

The second colour today is coral, the darkest of my six flesh tones. And the zippy edges on Jon’s top are the white of the paper, not white gel pen marks – I did quite well there. Apart from that, there’s not much to say about how I created this one.

I think Jon came out OK. For the fifth time out of five, the personality is there but the likeness isn’t perfect. But that’s fine. This is one of a collection of six portraits and six individual 6/10 likenesses in a collection will make a collection worth a 7/10 likeness. That’s how collections seem to work. Oh, and I’m liking the hands throughout this collection, all of them made up of weird, unrealistic, abstract shapes that somehow look good from a distance.

And there we are then guys. That’s all we have time for today. Thanks very much for reading. I hope you liked the post. If you haven’t added this website to your favourites already, please consider doing so. That would be fricked sweet awesome. Enjoy the rest of your week, whatever it is you get up to. My name’s <redacted>, you’ve been reading The Artistic Actuary and I’ll see you guys next time for another exciting YouTube creator marker portrait. Until then, take care. Bye bye.
