Just a portrait of a giraffe today, albeit one with a bird attached to its…

Here He Comes
Tuesday’s angelfish went so well that I thought I’d have mother go at a camouflaged fish in posterised style. This could end up becoming a series if I can find source photos that work with all my different posterised colour schemes. Except that number two in the series isn’t a fish: it’s a killer whale, an aquatic mammal.
I went for the tundra colours today and painted this one broadly using my normal approach for posterised paintings. Just like last time, I added in some foliage to make things interesting, to frame the subject and to give the impression of camouflage. My first layer of paint today included tundra green as well as tundra pink for a change. Most of the green is down the edges and along the bottom: it’s only really visible behind the big grassy stalk in the left. Some of the whites on the orca looked a bit too white and the boundary between the pink and white on its chest looked a bit too sharp, so I added some very watery pink over some of the white areas to try to soften things. And that was me done.
While this one isn’t a disaster, I can’t help comparing it to Tuesday’s angelfish. The colours in this one aren’t as interesting (first time I’ve ever been less than ecstatic about the tundra colours) and there are some edges that are too hard and some that are too soft. On the other hand, the granulation in the pink background is great and the camouflage effect is there again. This one’s going up for sale, with the price to be found here. It’s named after another Jimi Hendrix track.
