Just six days to go until episode 4 of this series of Landscape Artist Of…

Feel The Cold
Here’s the third of my senses. It’s my hand, signifying touch.
Like all the other senses, this is in charcoal. Most of it is with charcoal pencils, with the XL blocks being used for the background and to add some highlights. This one caused me more problems than the ear and the tongue. I went too dark over most of the hand and had to add the white highlights and to colour the background to help them stand out. Blending just wasn’t doing me any favours today, whether I used paper stumps, fingers or kitchen paper, so I eventually stoppe after adding a layer of darks and not blending them.
What I’ve ended up with is OK I guess, especially bearing mind the ultimate fate of these charcoal drawings. But this one’s definitely the worst of the three so far. With two drawings furring on one sheet of paper, there’s capacity there on the third sheet for a second attempt at one of the five senses, so I my have a second go at one of them. If I do, touch is an early favourite for a retry.
In the end, I stuck with this drawing and incorporated it into See The Winter, Taste The Snow, Feel The Cold.
