Dan Rourke, SciManDan

What happens when one of the biggest artists on the internet takes on the most feared of flat Earth debunkers? Well, you’re about to find out.

Hello all and welcome along to another blog post by me, The Artistic Actuary. Thanks very much for joining me. Ok, on with today’s painting which features Dan Rourke, creator of the SciManDan YouTube channel which politely debunks all sorts of anti science conspiracy theory videos, Flat Earth videos in particular.

I went for amethyst as Dan’s second colour and went through the same process as for the last two portraits. Black first over the dark areas, then the other colour over the midtones. I added the black in two layers in swirly motion to avoid streaks. If this were a watercolour I’d quite happily have merged Dan’s right shoulder into the dark background behind him but a bit more definition is needed with markers, so I left a very thin midtone line between the shoulder and the background.

This one gets a similar assessment to the last two. The likeness isn’t perfect but I’ve captured the person. And when six portraits like this are put together, they feed off each other and suddenly the shortfalls in likenesses don’t feel so important. For what it’s worth I think any likeness problems are to do with vertical scaling: some bits of the face may be slightly stretched, some slightly compacted. Dear oh dear, as Dan might say.

I’ve had enough of painting for one day, so I’m going to wrap this one up. Let me know in the comments what you thought of the portrait. Thanks so much for reading. It’s very much appreciated. I’ve been The Artistic Actuary. Have yourselves a great day and I’ll see you all tomorrow for another marker portrait. See you then.
