And here’s number five in the collection. Time to build a horn section, starting with “Blue Lou” Marini in saxophone.

This feels like the best portrait far in the collection. Like all the others, for all the values to make sense, he should be viewed from a distance or through squinted eyes. With this one, I was operating at close to peak: after I finished putting most of the colour down, I compared my painting to the original photo (not to the value plan) and made a few changes to improve the likeness.
