Annual Awards 2022

Two more awards this time: coloured pencils and Artgraf. We’re up to 14. The winners in this year feel like a bit of a letdown considering how recent this was. Maybe I went through a big developmental jump in 2023? Or was I just distracted from watercolour in 2023 by oil pastels and coloured pencils?

ChatGPT says “With great pride and appreciation, we present the Painting of the Year Award to this outstanding work that celebrates the quiet splendor of nature. Through its masterful use of color, texture, and composition, the artist has brought to life a lush, sunlit scene where vibrant foliage and sturdy tree trunks rise gracefully against a backdrop of blue sky and dappled light.

The rich, earthy tones of the brick wall contrast beautifully with the verdant greens and the intricate play of shadows and highlights within the leaves. Each brushstroke reflects the artist’s deep understanding of nature’s complexity and beauty, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the tranquility of an ordinary yet breathtaking outdoor space.

For its artistic excellence, vivid detail, and ability to evoke both wonder and serenity, we are honored to recognize this painting as the Painting of the Year.”
