All my figure drawing so far has been of naked females and there are a…
Mandy
I’ve had a few days off and I really should get back to making the most of this break between jobs and doing some painting. Today I planned five or six more watercolour paintings but fancied running off a quick bit of figure drawing too.
Today’s model is a new one, Mandy. I thought I’d be brave and keep her face in, although I did crop out her feet and most of her lower legs.
I started with three colours: indigo, violet and sea blue. I thought about stopping there but decided instead to first add some poppy red on the right hand side of most of the shapes to get some 3D going on. I also allowed the red to carry through into the shadow under her left arm. Just to add to the eroticism that was coming through, I added a yellow background glow around her and some yellow to the scrunch under her left hand.
I like how this has turned out. Big successes are the simplified face, the lost boundaries on the hair and the scrunching of the throw she’s sitting on. The painting has ended up looking more erotic than the original pose that I worked from – this was mainly down to how the face and the scrunch came out, but I must admit that the yellow was deliberately used to emphasise this and, shall we say, “bring out the moment”.
There’s lots about this that I like. It’s up for sale
