Mandy
I’ve had a few days off and I really should get back to making the most of this break between jobs and doing some painting. Ā Today I planned five or six more watercolour paintings but fancied running off a quick bit of figure drawing too.
Today’s model is a new one, Mandy. Ā I thought I’d be brave and keep her face in, although I did crop out her feet and most of her lower legs.
I started with three colours: indigo, violet and sea blue. Ā I thought about stopping there but decided instead to first add some poppy red on the right hand side of most of the shapes to get some 3D going on. Ā I also allowed the red to carry through into the shadow under her left arm. Ā Just to add to the eroticism that was coming through, I added a yellow background glow around her and some yellow to the scrunch under her left hand.
I like how this has turned out. Ā Big successes are the simplified face, the lost boundaries on the hair and the scrunching of the throw she’s sitting on. Ā The painting has ended up looking more erotic than the original pose that I worked from – this was mainly down to how the face and the scrunch came out, but I must admit that the yellow was deliberately used to emphasise this and, shall we say, “bring out the moment”.
There’s lots about this that I like. Ā It’s up for sale. To see the price, click here.
