Fixative On Soft Pastels

Before my next painting, which will be in soft pastels, a long overdue experiment. If I’m ever to sell soft pastel paintings (and I’m planning on having some ready to display at the Rose & Crown) I really should check out whether I can apply fixative to them.

So I switched out eight fairly random colours and sprayed on fixative. Three of four hours later they’re looking fine, which is great news. Obviously, being a scientist, I made sure I did some more swatches without fixative for comparison purposes.

The fixative I used is Delacroix by Sennelier. It comes in an aerosol and it says on the can that it works for charcoal and pencils.
